TAMPA, Fla. (Aug. 24, 2021) – The Ybor City Community Advisory Committee (CAC)/Ybor City Development Corporation (YCDC) introduced the Heart of Tampa campaign in early 2021 to champion Ybor’s strong history, diversity and culture. Today, Ybor’s inaugural Community Art Contest – heART of Ybor – asks potential applicants to present through artistic expression what the National Historic Landmark District means to them.
YCDC Manager Courtney Orr said, “The unique ambiance that radiates throughout Ybor City is inspirational to so many. We thought why not present a platform for anyone to demonstrate via various artistic mediums how Ybor stole their heart. We also hope this could help draw even more creatives to live and/or work in Ybor.”
Applicants can apply through a diverse choice of mixed-mediums from traditional painting and drawing to digital art and performance with an out-of-the-box category.
Newcomer Sean Manovill is an artist and owner of recently-opened The Gimmick, a vintage store and art gallery in Ybor City. “Art is a visual language that brings all people together. The ability to create and share in a place like Ybor City is extremely rewarding and drives me every day to stay unique and exciting,” Manovill said.
The heART of Ybor Community Art Contest is free to participate. All submissions will be accepted through YCDC’s website. The submission period starts Tuesday, August 24, 2021, and ends on Friday, October 22, 2021. Category winners for first, second and third place will be announced in early November. Winners will receive media exposure, featured social media posts, featured posts on YCDC’s website, along with gift cards to Ybor City businesses not to mention love and support from the Ybor City community.
